Stories & News News ERIC's continence management training for schools hailed a success Just a few months ago sitting around a meeting table brainstorming how to reach more education professionals with our information for managing continence in schools, we came up with the idea of running tailored training sessions for educators. On Monday 11 July that idea became reality when we held a one day seminar in London entitled ‘Managing Children's Continence Problems in Schools’. Our expert trainers covered the fundamentals of healthy bladders and bowels, continence problems that can develop, young people’s experiences of dealing with a continence problem in school, and schools’ responsibilities towards pupils with conditions. The participants were informed about ERIC’s ‘Right to Go’ campaign which aims to improve care for children’s continence problems in schools and improve pupils’ access to good toilet facilities. They were given copies of ‘ERIC's Guide to Helping Early Years Settings and Schools Manage Continence’. Attendees also took away copies of other ERIC resources including our guides to children’s bladder and bowel problems, new posters for school toilets designed by the washroom company Cubicle Centre and Cubicle Centre’s Washroom Guide for Schools. The seminar was described by delegates as "really, really useful” and "a great course, well worth the money”. Shaina, a nursery nurse from Tower Hamlets in London said: "It was a very useful course. I have learnt a lot today. I will share this knowledge with others and I also feel more confident with sharing information that I’ve learnt.” We are now in the process of planning more schools training days and hope to hold these in other parts of the UK. If you would like to be one of the first people to receive news of upcoming seminars, or if you are interested in bespoke training for your school, please send an email to our Learning and Development Manager Jackie Fuidge - [email protected] or call 0117 301 2102.
