Would you like to be part of an exciting new research study that could help thousands of children who experience bedwetting?

ERIC is helping to deliver a clinical trial into the effects of wearing nappies or absorbent pants at night for children over the age of four who wet the bed.

Bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) is a common difficulty affecting over 25% of five-year-olds and 9% of ten-year-olds. This can be very stressful for both children and their parents/carers. DryNites pyjama pants can be used to manage bedwetting but are not a treatment or cure.

This study aims to determine the impact of using DryNites absorbent pants on children becoming dry at night. It also aims to assess their impact on overall quality of life and sleep quality of both children and their parents/carers.

Who can take part?

  • Children between the age of 4-8 years who have always wet the bed.

  • Children aged 5 years or over who have been dry for a consecutive period of six months and then started wetting the bed again.

  • Bedwetting is their only bladder related issue – the study does not include children who have problems during the day.

  • Children who have not previously been treated for this condition but who have managed it with absorbent pants or nappies for a minimum of six months.

What will the study involve?

You and your child will need to attend two online study ‘visits’ with a specialist nurse over 8 weeks. Depending on what happens after 8 weeks, you may be asked to attend a further online visit at 12 weeks. There will be no physical examinations. The nurse will explain how to complete the questionnaire and daily study diary. They will also discuss with available treatment and care alternatives with you.

What are the benefits?

Taking part in the study may or may not improve your child’s condition. However, you will be part of an important study which may lead to an improved understanding of your child’s condition and may help healthcare providers with future treatments. You will receive a free supply of nappies/absorbent pants and bed mats for the duration of the study. Once the study is complete the specialist nurse will discuss with you the most suitable management of your child’s bedwetting.

How do we get involved?

If you would like to know more about the study and the implications for you and your child, please contact the ERIC study team at: [email protected] Someone will get back to you to explain more and arrange an appointment with the study nurse if appropriate although there is no obligation for you to take part. Thank you so much.
