Work as a team: It really helps if everyone who cares for your child is doing the same thing.

Make it a joint effort: If your child is looked after by a relative or goes to nursery or a childminder make sure you let them know that you’re starting potty training and the way you’re planning to do it.

Use consistent language: Talk about wee and poo... or whatever you prefer to call them. Choose the terms you want to use and ask everyone who looks after your child to use them.

Keep it regular: Build up a 'toilet time' routine, including regular visits 20-30 minutes after each meal, first thing in the morning and last thing before bedtime.
