Lorna Montgomery - Chair of Trustees Expand I’ve been involved with ERIC since 2003. I began working with the charity as a consultant fundraiser and was invited onto the Board in 2009. Before my fundraising career I was a secondary school physical education and mathematics teacher. I, and also my son, had bedwetting problems until the age of about 15 and so have first-hand experience of the impact this issue has on both the individual and the whole family. I understand the vital role ERIC plays to so many families who need help managing the problem. I continue to work with a number of charities as a consultant and also volunteer for the Institute of Fundraising. In my free time I enjoy playing tennis, cycling, travelling and being in the outdoors.
Dr Eve Fleming Expand I'm the Clinical Education Fellow at the University of Warwick Medical School. I qualified as a doctor in 1965 and, after junior posts in hospital, I became a general practitioner. I later transferred to community child health, dealing with children and teenagers with chronic health problems. My special interest was in adolescent health as I felt the health needs of this group were often neglected. I went on to run a local bowel and bladder service and soon became known as the 'wee and poo doctor', which I took as a compliment! I also trained other staff and supervised nurses who ran clinics. I now help run toilet training courses for the National Autistic Society. Bowel and bladder problems have perhaps more impact than almost any other medical condition on children’s self esteem, education and social relationships, and effective treatment can change children’s lives. I've joined the ERIC Trustee board to share the skills I've developed and to promote information and support for children and families. ERIC is well placed to influence the development of effective and equitable services that are available for all children wherever they live. I'd also like to support ERIC's work in training professionals, and developing audit and research into improving treatment. Karen Tomlin Expand I've worked in the NHS for 20 years including 10 years as an adult continence nurse advisor and service manager in Northamptonshire. I currently work as a matron in a district general hospital. My clinical passion is continence care. I have found that simple treatments can have a big impact on individuals and their families and often the impact of incontinence is underestimated by other healthcare professionals. I joined ERIC, in February 2017, to share my knowledge of NHS services and management as well as develop my own skills. I hope to support developments and services for children and young people with bladder and bowel problems.
Claire Lindsay Expand Claire started her nursing career in 1984 - and completed her RSCN at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1987. Following a move to Devon in 1994, she undertook the Specialist Practitioner Community Children’s Nursing Degree and held a post as a Community Children’s Nurse. Over the past 10 years she has been working as a Paediatric Bladder and Bowel Care Nurse and leads an Integrated Paediatric Bladder and Bowel Care Service. She now manages a team of Paediatric Bladder and Bowel Care Nurses commissioned to provide a service all across Devon - seeing children with bladder and bowel dysfunction from primary nocturnal enuresis, daytime wetting and idiopathic constipation to the more complex neuropathic bladder and bowel difficulties. Claire is a member of the Paediatric Continence Forum and also Secretary for the British Association of Paediatric Continence & Urology Nurses. She can often be seen wild swimming off the gorgeous coast and hidden beaches of Devon and Cornwall.
Wendy Thompson Expand I am a Chartered Marketer and professional communicator with over thirty years’ strategic and operational marketing experience. I was first introduced to the wonderful support that ERIC provides, thanks to my previous role as UK & Ireland Marketing Manager with Essity, where I had responsibility for marketing incontinence, woundcare, vascular and orthopaedic products. Prior to my role with Essity, I held senior marketing and communications management roles within organisations including NHS Shared Business Services; PJ Care, a specialist neurological care provider directly servicing the needs of CCGs; CareShield, provider of online care quality training solutions; and British Standards Institution in the training, testing, assessment and certification business unit. Unfortunately, over the course of my career and in my personal life I have heard too many stories of children and young adults who didn’t get the support they needed with incontinence issues, which had a long-term negative impact on their lives. I strongly believe in the need for education and support in relation to bladder and bowel conditions, whether that is provided directly to patients or to their carers. I am delighted to be supporting ERIC as a member of the Board of Trustees.
Dr Jide Menakaya Expand I am an experienced Consultant Paediatrician based in London and Middlesex. I was appointed a Consultant with an interest in new-born care after training positions in Wessex, West Midlands, and Australia but have also become the Lead Clinician for Paediatric Gastroenterology at Hillingdon Hospital and a Honorary Consultant Paediatrician in Paediatric Gastroenterology at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital London. I have considerable experience in the assessment and management of medical disorders affecting all children. In addition, I am well versed in the care of newly born babies and infants including those born prematurely and have specific expertise in the management of children with complex constipation and incontinence. As a paediatrician, I have seen first-hand the impact of constipation and continence issues on children and their families. I have designed, led, and implemented innovative clinical programmes for affected children and their families that build their self-confidence and help return them to full health as quickly as possible. As a long-standing admirer of ERIC’s work, I welcome the opportunity to contribute actively to the exceptional role it plays supporting children and their families. In my free time, I enjoy cycling, running, singing, and travelling. I am married and live in London with my wife and two children.
