Stories & News News James Tudor grant to support ERIC's Early Intervention work We are thrilled to announce that the James Tudor Foundation will be supporting our Early Interventions work this year with a grant worth £12,000. This generous support will enable ERIC to continue employing a specialist paediatric continence nurse who will be developing and expanding our Early Interventions work nationwide. Our early interventions training was developed through a three year pilot funded by the Department of Health in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. This ran from 2013-2016 and trained over 1,000 health and education professionals and engaged the parents and carers of 2 and 4 year olds. Toilet training is a developmental milestone that can create stress for many families. Increasingly we are hearing from health and education professionals that many children are being toilet trained later or not at all and there is a higher incidence of children starting reception in nappies or having frequent wetting and soiling accidents. We know that Early Interventions work to support toilet training and tackle common childhood bowel and bladder conditions helps to identify and resolve problems before they become more serious and reduces the impact that these conditions can have on these children and their families. Over the next three years we are seeking to increase the number of health and education professionals we train to recognise these common childhood conditions and enable them to better support families when problems arise. Juliette Rayner, ERIC's Chief Executive said: “Thanks to the generosity of the Trustees of the James Tudor Foundation, we are able to start work to deliver our early interventions training and support to more communities across the UK. The ERIC nurse will play a pivotal role in expanding this area of our work so that many more families will get the support they need to help their children achieve independence in using the toilet and tackle any problems that might arise.” Visit the Trusts and Foundations page of our website for a list of all the grant giving bodies that support ERIC.
