This seminar looks at how the bladder and bowel should work and what to do when things go wrong. It includes management of constipation, daytime wetting and general continence promotion.

Course objectives

  • To develop understanding of promotion of healthy bladders and bowels in children
  • To increase knowledge of up-to-date facts on childhood bowel and bladder problems
  • To increase confidence in managing these conditions in the community
  • To provide an understanding of NICE Guidance on Idiopathic Constipation in Children and Young People and the impact that this may have on services
  • To establish areas where further learning and/or experience is needed.

Brenda Cheer - Paediatric Specialist Continence Nurse & ERIC Nurse

  • Introduction to the day and information about ERIC
  • Introduction to ERIC's Children's Continence Pathway - overview including anatomy & physiology and the relationship between bladders & bowels

Part 1: Healthy Bowels

  • The role of constipation. Assessment & diagnosis using the Continence Assessment Form
  • Management using the Flowchart for Constipation

Part 2: Healthy Bladders

  • Overview including anatomy & physiology. Acquisition of bladder control and assessment & diagnosis using the Continence Assessment Form. 
  • Management using the Flowchart for Daytime Wetting

This course will be delivered via Zoom webinar over two half day sessions as follows:

Tuesday 23rd February 2021 - 9.30am to 1.00pm

Tuesday 2nd March 2021 - 9.30am to 1.00pm

Please note that you need to attend both sessions to complete this course.

The cost of the course is £90 per person. Please note that we can only accept payment by card.

Cancellation & transfer policy

If written notification is received 30 days before the course, we will issue a refund. We regret that no refunds can be made on bookings cancelled less than 30 days before the course. A colleague may attend in your place rather than forfeit the full course fee.

ERIC reserves the right to cancel the course. In the unlikely event of cancellation by ERIC, course fees paid will be refunded in full.
