Practice: Keep it in the bathroom and let them practise sitting on it. Make it fun: Keep a bag of toys ready for them to play with while they're on the potty so they remain happy to sit for 2 or 3 minutes. Double up: You might want to have more than one potty to begin with. Consider keeping one downstairs if your only bathroom is upstairs. Moving on from using a potty: If a potty is not suitable for your child or they want to move on from using the potty to the grown-up toilet, use a children's toilet seat and a foot stool to help support them when they’re on the loo. A stool or box needs to be high enough to provide firm support under the child's feet and so that their knees are above their hips in a secure position.
