Paediatric Continence Forum

The Paediatric Continence Forum (PCF) is a group of health professionals, patient representatives and companies that have come together to raise awareness of childhood bladder and bowel problems through lobbying MPs and the government. It is chaired by Penny Dobson, ERIC’s Director.
The PCF succeeded in having childhood continence problems included in the National Service Framework (NSF) for Children in 2004, in the section on the Ill Child. The NSF is the template for children’s services for the next ten years, so this was a major achievement.
The PCF is now looking to support NHS Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) put in place the recommendations contained in the NSF document. Funding has recently been given by the Department of Health for the production of an Implementation Pack. The aim of the pack is to help PCTs develop joined-up continence services for children, so that any child in the UK using these services receives good quality assessment, treatment and management of their bladder or bowel problem.
The Implementation Pack is due to be produced in 2008, so watch this space for further information! |
